6th Annual ICC International Mediation Conference

On November 10, the CCIAG is co-sponsoring the 6th Annual ICC International Mediation Conference at the ICC in Paris. This is an annual conference aimed specifically at in-house counsel and management representatives involved in dispute resolution, with a focus on techniques for cost and time-effective conflict management, dispute avoidance, early dispute resolution and the optimal use of mediation. Presenters will include many esteemed and highly experienced corporate counsel from major international companies, listed below.

The CCIAG is co-sponsoring the Global Pound Conference (GPC), along with the International Mediation Institute (IMI), the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), JAMS, and many other leading players in the arena of global dispute resolution. The Global Pound Conference will be a series of meetings and events held in 42 cities in 32 countries, starting with Singapore in March 2016 and ending in London in July 2017.

The goal of the GPC Series, titled Shaping the Future of Dispute Resolution & Improving Access to Justice,  is to bring together stakeholders from all facets of dispute resolution in all parts of the world to discuss a common group of core questions geared toward exploring various options for dispute resolution (e.g., litigation, arbitration, conciliation and mediation) and identifying the most appropriate and effective options in varying circumstances in varying jurisdictions, and how such processes can be made more accessible in parts of the world where barriers exist today.  The GPC Series will use a global information technology platform available via the Internet to expand participation, with the goal of generating and collecting reliable data from thousands of users, providers, advisors and other stakeholders worldwide that can be compared and acted upon. ICDR – New International Dispute Resolution Procedures (including Mediation and Arbitration Rules)

A new ICC guide for arbitration management!

On Friday 6th June 2014, the Secretariat of the ICC Court of International Arbitration launched its guide for the effective management of arbitration for in-house counsel and other party representatives.

On Friday 6th June 2014, the Secretariat of the ICC Court of International Arbitration launched its guide for the effective management of arbitration for in-house counsel and other party representatives.

The “Effective Management of Arbitration: A guide for In-House Counsel and Other Party Representative” booklet provides the parties and its representatives with a checklist for the procedural decisions that need to be made at each principal phase of an arbitration. It is a practical tool kit for making effective time and cost decisions based upon a cost-benefit analysis. Therefore, it addresses the modern need for a rational and holistic approach to the management of disputes: it draws a roadmap through the dispute, from its pre-arbitration stage to the arbitration itself.

The guide was written by an ICC task force composed of corporate counsel, a private practitioner, an arbitrator, and representatives of the ICC Court of International Arbitration Secretariat.

The launching event for this guide took place at the ICC Headquarters in Paris. During the event, a round table discussion took place, where corporate counsel expressed their views on each step of the arbitral process described in the guide. The CCIAG was well-represented, with Isabelle Hautot, Pierre-Jérôme Abric, Marie Vicien-Milburn and Jean-Claude Najar among the speakers.

CDR Arbitration Symposium

On 20 May 2014, a CDR Arbitration Symposium on current and future arbitration trends will take place in London. Eminent arbitration practitioners as well as Corporate Counsels from major companies will be speaking at the event.

The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC Europe) is organizing a
seminar on Commercial Arbitration in China: Tribunal Possibilities and Practical Aspects.

The seminar will be held on 3 June 2014 from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM CET at the Paris offices of Bird & Bird AARPI at: Centre d’Affaires Edouard VII, 3 Square Edouard VII, 75009 Paris.

Overview:
This seminar will introduce French in-house counsel to arbitration in China. The presenters, arbitrators with extensive experience in China as well as a representative of China’s leading independent arbitral tribunal, will provide an overview of the arbitration process in China and its efficacy. They will also look at the various organizations responsible for managing arbitration in China and will address the enforcement of arbitral awards in China.

The ICC International Court of Arbitration and the Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC) are organizing a one-day summit in Paris featuring leading practitioners from all parts of the world including China. They will discuss legal developments in commercial dispute resolution in China.
